HKU EMUS Lab, mainland manufacturing AI at 34%, and Rockwell's maintenance copilot: three signals for HK traders
This page is a short English teaser. The approved news digest is published in Traditional Chinese.
- Hong Kong (17 Sep 2026): Avnet and the University of Hong Kong opened the Emerging Microelectronics and Ubiquitous Systems Lab (EMUS Lab) at the Data Technology Hub in Tseung Kwan O InnoPark, focused on edge AI, physical AI, robotics, HPC and emerging microelectronics, with engineering consultation, GPU resources, prototyping, manufacturability assessments and supply chain support. The 12-month DfMA Launchpad for AI MMP Programme, with the HKSTP ecosystem, has selected 27 startup teams. Programme or funding approval is not guaranteed.
- Mainland China (20 Sep 2026): At the World Manufacturing Congress in Hefei, the National Industrial Information Security Development Research Center reported H1 2026 manufacturing AI key-scenario adoption of 34.2% (+5.5 percentage points year on year), 10.6% of above-scale manufacturers using large models, and a national industrialization–informatization fusion score of 67.1. Digitalization rates: R&D 86.3%, production 69.5%, management 81.4%. Design is further ahead than the shop floor.
- Worldwide (24 Sep 2026): Since October 2025, Rockwell Automation’s Singapore site has used a GenAI maintenance copilot on Azure / Azure OpenAI, trained on veteran know-how, manuals and manufacturing software. Reported results: machine downtime down 33%, servicing and spare costs down about 25%, and troubleshooting onboarding cut from about nine months to about three months (Buttermore). A June WEF lighthouse citation noted units per person-hour +43%, defects −35% and time-to-competency −67%. The copilot is planned for Twinsburg, Ohio, Poland and Mexico.
- For mid-size traders the practical question is prototype-to-production clarity, quote and document hygiene, and whether a rush order needs programming or fixtures — not which vendor name to repeat. A light pilot is enough to start. Funding approval is not guaranteed.
